UIC College of Education’s Urban Education Leadership Program has won the 2012 Dr. Shirley S. Schwartz Urban Impact Award.

The achievement is significant. Sponsored by The Council of the Great City Colleges of Education, an affiliate group of deans working with urban school leaders, the award honors an outstanding partnership between a university and an urban school district that has had a positive, substantial impact on student learning. UELP has worked closely with the Chicago Public Schools district since the 2003-04 academic school year to supply it with highly effective principals and system leaders.

That’s why the Center for Urban Education Leadership supports UIC’s UELP’s model. With the program, we find the best ways to put visionary leaders in high-need, urban schools — through researching best practices and by sharing what we find with the public.

We believe that great school leaders should be the rule, not the exception.

UIC is showing how to make that happen at scale.
