This week, faculty from the University of Texas at Austin (UT), joined the Center for Urban Education Leadership (CUEL) and UIC Ed.D. team to learn more about how to construct an equity-oriented, exemplary leadership preparation program–with a closer examination of the clinical component of such preparation. UIC contributors included: Shelby Cosner (CUEL Director), Cynthia Barron, Lionel Allen, Joe Shoffner, Bev LaCoste, Stephen McClain, Kenya Mandeldove-Sadler, Meagan Richard, Martha Hebert, and Sharon Spears. This visit occurred as part of a Wallace Foundation initiative–the Equity Centered Principal Pipeline (ECPI)–through which UIC is serving as a mentor for both UT Austin and Portland State University. During their visit, the UT Team learned from UIC’s faculty and coaching team in multiple on-campus sessions and also had the opportunity to visit schools and learn more about UIC’s residency (clinical experience) more directly from current residents and their mentor principals.
