Richard, M., Salisbury, J., & Cosner, S. (In press, 2021). Examining social justice leaders in educational market contexts. In C.A. Mullen (Ed.), Handbook of Social Justice Interventions in Education. Springer Nature.
This book chapter examines the interplay between social justice leadership and educational market, or school choice, policy contexts. It first synthesizes multiple bodies of literature examining equity-focused leadership approaches to build and present a framework of the key domains of social justice leadership practice. Second, the chapter explores how educational market policy manifests within school districts and concludes that research still has revealed relatively little related to how these policy contexts impact the work of social justice leaders. Finally, the chapter theorizes how market contexts could shape social justice leadership practice, and provides a discussion of implications for these theories.
