Dr. Meagan S. Richard, CUEL Occasional Collaborator, alumna of the UIC Ph.D. in Policy Studies in Urban Education–Educational Organization and Leadership Program and prior CUEL Research Assistant, received two awards at the 2024 AERA conference in Philadelphia for her dissertation work, completed under the supervision of Dr. Shelby Cosner, CUEL Director. Dr. Richard’s dissertation, Emancipatory School Leadership in Educational Market Contexts, won a formal Honorable Mention for the Leadership for Social Justice SIG’s Social Justice Dissertation award. Her dissertation also won Dissertation of the Year for the Leadership for School Improvement SIG’s Dissertation award. Additionally, Dr. Richard was elected to an Executive Committee position for the Learning and Teaching in Educational Leadership SIG, which centers issues of leadership preparation, and received an appointed position of service as a Co-Associate Editor. Both positions begin directly following AERA. We congratulate Dr. Richard on these accomplishments and wish her continued success!
