We are excited to share the new special issue journal just published by the Journal of Research on Leadership Education (JRLE) and guest edited by Shelby Cosner, CUEL Director. This journal takes a deeper look into next generation active learning designs in educational leadership preparation. Although active learning designs are recognized as elemental to stronger learning designs, there is limited literature on active learning pedagogical approaches for use in educational leader preparation. Beyond first generation active learning designs—such as problem- and case-based learning, simulations, and action research—this special issue draws attention to a “next generation” of active learning pedagogical approaches.
