The UIC Center for Urban Education Leadership is one of six honorees selected by The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching for this year’s Spotlight on Quality in Continuous Improvement. CUEL provides continuous improvement support to the EdD Program in Urban Education Leadership. The 2018 Spotlight honorees confront improvement challenges across urban, rural, community, and state contexts by:
- Addressing inequity by moving from “average” to “every”
- Building human and social capabilities
- Leveraging diverse expertise to make progress
- Prioritizing learning at the center
Together the six honorees reinforce a collective commitment to turn our aspirations for more ambitious educational outcomes into realized outcomes for all students. Each organization will present their improvement work at the invitational Spotlight on Quality in Continuous Improvement Symposium, in Washington, DC and at the Carnegie Foundation Summit on Improvement in Education on April 16-18, 2019, in San Francisco.
The Carnegie Foundation launched the Spotlight on Quality in Continuous Improvement program in 2017 to provide clear and powerful examples of the application of improvement principles, methods, and tools to solve educational problems. The Spotlight program aims to provide educational organizations and improvement networks an opportunity to learn about quality in continuous improvement, assess their own progress, access resources and education that support improvement, and be recognized for their quality practices within the field of education.
The other five honorees this year are:
Central Valley Networked Improvement Community, Tulare County Office of Education
Memphis KIPP Wheatley Learning Collaborative, KIPP Foundation
National Implementation Research Network and Kentucky Department of Education
StriveTogether and United Way of Salt Lake
Un Buen Comienzo Improvement Network, Fundación Educacional Oportunidad
In its inaugural year, honorees included: Better Math Teaching Network, Fresno Unified School District, High Tech High, National Writing Project, New Visions for Public Schools, School District of Menomonee Falls, and Summit Public Schools.
