Since 2012, the Center for Urban Education Leadership has been building the UI Ed.D. program's capacity to prepare a new generation of transformative urban school principals. The nationally recognized Ed.D program guides a carefully selected group of school leaders through three years of intensive leadership study and practice, preparing these prospective principals to enter schools with the most need and ensuring they have the proven training necessary to create a positive impact. Program completers have gone on to increase student retention, improve test scores, and narrow the achievement gap in CPS schools. Because of this success, the program and Center have influenced policy on the local, state and, national levels, helping school leadership programs across the country move toward next-generation school leader development.
