Victoria Trinder

Victoria Trinder is a clinical assistant professor and coordinator of the BA Urban Education: Elementary Education program, where she works with undergraduate teacher candidates to critically exam the role of schooling in urban contexts, both locally and nationally.

Research & Teaching Interests

Trinder's teaching and research interests are: 1) to prepare high-quality graduate and undergraduate students in critical examination of schooling in the national and international realms, while preparing for meaningful inquiry into active participation in society through democratic structures and advocacy for its youngest members;  2) to integrate her creative and literary pursuits with those embedded in the world of progressive, holistic, and global initiatives in public education; 3) to share her unique experiences in narrative-inquiry research, teacher mentoring, and social philosophy with the intended and critical objectives of equity for young people and renewal of the public sphere, via innovative and interdisciplinary notions of learning.

Various - Several classroom-teacher grants for curriculum enhancement and creative projects: The Oppenheimer Family Foundation (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000); Chicago Foundation for Education (1998, 2000); The Rochelle Lee Library Fund Award (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000). 
2007 - Selected as an alternate for Fulbright-Hays Teachers Group Study Award for summer travel and research on language-acquisition among students transitioning from high schools to colleges: South Africa. 
2001 - Ida B. Wells Action Research Award to conduct ethnographic research with 8th/9th grade students transitioning from our arts-integrated middle school into Chicago area high schools. 
1999 - National Endowment for the Humanities Scholarship to participate in their Cartographic Traditions in World History Summer Institute with other nationally-selected teachers. 
1997 - Authored and awarded (and co-authored with Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum Director) Fulbright-Hays Scholarship for Telpochcalli teachers to study Mexican arts/culture/ history in Mexico for 5 weeks in summer.
